A Taste of the Rhone

Currently, there are concerns about whether the grapes and location will be available in 20 years due to Climate Change, so now is the time to reflect on the aromas and flavors that could be lost if we don't slow down the current concerns.

The Rhone is in southern France and divided into Northern and Southern Rhone with strict regulation of varieties. The soils of Northern Rhone are a mix of rocks and granite, and the vines struggle to get nutrients. So yields are low.

The soils of the Southern Rhone have rocky limestone and sandy soils, whilst the king of Southern Rhone, Chateau Neuf Du Pape have large flat stones called "Galets" from ancient river beds of various ages. These hold the heat of the sun and reflect light.

Northern Rhone; Northern Rhone is the home of the Syrah grape, so Croze Hermitage reflects this.
