The soils of Fronsac and Canon Fronsac are mainly limestone and clay-limestone on the plateaus and on the hillsides, with a minor clay-siliceous soil at the foot of the hills.
Asteria limestone predominates on the mound and plateaus. The Fronsadais molasse marks the coasts and valleys. This typicality of the terroirs is accentuated by the relief.
It is this exceptional clay-limestone terroir that gave its name to the terroir of which many great appellations are proud, including the neighboring appellations of Saint-Emilion "la molasse du Fronsadais".
It is the quality of these soils, supplied with water regularly and without stress, which gives the wines of Fronsac and Canon Fronsac their richness and complexity.
