Camille de Labrie Chardonnay 2025

Chardonnay is not a permitted grape in Bordeaux, so this wine has to be labelled plain Vin de France. Don't let that put you off. The grapes are picked by hand at night while it is cool, fermented at a gentle 16°C and left on their fine lees in vat for a few months. Just 10% of the wine sees French oak.

The nose is quince, honey and spice with a little citrus, and the palate is fleshy yet refreshing, with white fruit, mango and a lick of ginger. It would hold its own against a good Mâcon at a similar price. James Suckling gave it 92 points, and Paolo Basso, a former Best Sommelier in the World, gave it 90 and a "top value" nod.
