Pewter-Mounted Glass Claret Jug with Hinged Lid

The claret jug has been a fixture of the English dining table since the nineteenth century, when Bordeaux was poured as often from a jug as from a decanter. This one keeps the tradition but sheds the fuss: clean, contemporary lines in clear glass, finished with polished pewter at the lid and base.

The hinged pewter lid lifts with a simple thumb hook, so it pours one-handed and closes again to keep the wine covered between glasses. The weighted pewter base gives it a steady footing on the table and catches the light nicely in the glass above.
