Les Filles Maugiron 2013

Côte-Rôtie AOC –

Organic & Vegan Red Wine, Elm Wood Gift Box

Explore the rich heritage and exceptional land behind Les Filles Maugiron 2013 Côte-Rôtie: a mature, organic and vegan red from one of France's most storied hillsides. It's presented in an elm wood box lined with black and blue silk, and recommended as a collector's wine for true connoisseurs.

The Daughters of Maugiron

The wine is named after one of Côte-Rôtie's best-loved legends. The Lord of Maugiron, whose home was the Château d'Ampuis, is said to have divided his vineyards between his two daughters, one fair-haired and one dark. Their dowries became the famous Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, the two great hillsides that still define the appellation. Les Filles Maugiron, "the daughters of Maugiron", brings both together in one bottle.

Local history also says that the Château d'Ampuis was the scene of a groundbreaking event in 1553, when turkeys were first served in France. That's a little ironic, given our focus on vegan wines! To us, this fine, expertly crafted vegan wine is a legacy of change.

Two Hillsides, One Wine

Côte-Rôtie, meaning "roasted slope", is the northernmost appellation of the Rhône Valley, with vines clinging to steep terraces above the river. The Côte Brune brings dark, iron-rich mica schists and the crumbly local schist called arzel. The Côte Blonde brings paler gneiss and granite. Together they give a wine of power, depth and elegance.

How It's Made

A blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, the white grape traditionally fermented with Syrah in Côte-Rôtie to lift the aromas and soften the texture. The wine is aged for two to three years in new oak barrels for a perfect balance of flavours.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Blackcurrant, violet and redcurrant, with coffee, pepper and spice
  • Palate: Complex and satisfying, with layers of flavour that continue to evolve in the glass
  • Style: This isn't a wine for those looking for the fresh, fruity character of young Rhône Syrah. It's one for the connoisseur who wants to savour the nuances and layered flavours of a red wine built to age.

A Collector's Wine

With ageing potential of 15–20 years, this 2013 is drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop until around 2028–2033. It's a wine to lay down, to open for a special occasion, or to enjoy slowly on its own as a moment of fine wine reflection.

Serving Tips

Serve at 16–18°C. Stand the bottle upright for a few hours before opening, as mature wines can throw a natural sediment. Decant gently for 30–60 minutes and pour slowly.

Food Pairing

Best served with a special meal, and suited to all robust dishes:

  • Wild mushroom, lentil or chestnut dishes for a vegan pairing
  • Roast lamb or venison
  • Duck or game birds
  • Beef with a peppercorn or red wine sauce
  • Aged hard cheeses

The Gift Box

The wine comes in an elm wood presentation box with a black and blue silk lining. It's ideal for:

  • Wine collectors and connoisseurs
  • Corporate and client gifts
  • Christmas
  • Milestone birthdays, anniversaries and retirements

Is a 2013 Côte-Rôtie still good to drink?
Yes. With ageing potential of 15–20 years, it's drinking beautifully now and will keep developing until around 2033.

Is this wine for collectors?
